Kitchen Appliance Cleaning Tips – Get Them Back to Like New Condition

Don’t have the budget to invest in all new appliances for your kitchen but your current ones are looking tired and old? Not to worry because as long as they are in good working condition still, there really is no need to rush out to replace them. What they most likely need is a really good deep cleaning to get them back to that like new condition. A swipe of a wet cloth or a disinfectant wipe may be fine for those daily messes, but they can’t give you a deep clean.

Here are some simple tips you can use that will help clean your kitchen appliances in a way that brings them back to like new condition.

Refrigerator

Of all the appliances in your kitchen, the refrigerator tends to get the most dirty, grimy, and smelly, and usually in a short amount of time.

First, remove everything from the fridge. Next, it’s time to take out any removable shelves and drawers so they can be washed in warm soapy water in the sink.  While the drawers and shelves are out of the fridge this is the perfect time to use a warm cloth with soap on it to give the interior a good scrub.

When everything is dry and back in place, you may want to stick a couple of boxes of plain baking soda in there. This will absorb odors in the fridge and keep it smelling fresh. The boxes should be changed on a monthly basis. It’s also a good time to take a look at the fridge filter and potentially order a replacement filter.

Dishwasher

The dishwasher can also be home to a whole lot of dirt, grease, odors, and grime, which in turn can affect its ability to clean your dishes properly. Giving your dishwasher a deep clean is relatively easy and fast, so it’s something that should be done at least once a month depending on how fast the dirt builds up.

All you have to do is put one cup of white vinegar on the top rack of the machine, and turn it on. If you don’t have vinegar on-hand you can use a cup of baking soda and sprinkle it on the bottom and then leave it overnight. In the morning run it on a full cycle while empty.

Oven

This one can be a little trickier especially if your oven doesn’t have a self-cleaning feature. First, you want to use some sort of commercial oven cleaner, or a solution of vinegar and baking soda to really get off as much grime as possible. It can be cooked on and difficult to remove. Next, use the self-cleaning cycle and let it do its thing. Just make sure it is empty.

Consistent Deep Cleaning is the Key

Now that you’ve got the appliances looking amazing again, it’s important to keep it up. Giving them a good clean every few months will help them to stay fresh-looking, and even prolong their lifespan.
