Laura Ashley’s top three contemporary sofas

Alston in Alston Linen 2 Seater sofa

Contemporary modern living is not a simple one-dimensional style. To say something is contemporary just means it is currently in vogue. Although there are certain things such as creative use of space and technology and modern materials that tie the aesthetic together, it is a multi-faceted notion that is in constant flux, moving with the latest interior design trends. With that in mind, here are three sofas and chairs from Laura Ashley that can all be classed as ‘contemporary’ but they are all very different in terms of style and shape.

Alston sofas and chairs

The Alston range of sofas and chairs is relaxed and casual. The rounded arms and lose fitting fabrics combined with scatter back cushions give this range a fresh and contemporary look. This is a great family sofa too, as the cushions can be moved around and loose-cover versions are available. As with many of the Laura Ashley sofas and chairs you can choose from more than 100 fabric options so you tailor the sofa and chairs to your personal tastes. For a contemporary look, check out the ‘inspiration’ section of Laura Ashley’s website. We like the pastel shades of the ‘Wisteria Trail look.

Chesham Upholstered chair

The Chesham chair oozes modernity and style. The design is unfussy and simple with nothing more than a wooden plinth and upholstered seat and back. There are no ornate armrests or shaping; this chair is pure elegance. Seeing as this is a chair in isolation – there is no matching sofa – experiment with pattern fabrics and pretty colours. This chair is actually featured in the Wisteria Trail lookbook and we can see why. It is simply divine and would make a great addition to any contemporary living room. The pastel shades used in House to Home’s lookbook perfectly showcase the kind of look we are talking about.

Ashton sofa

Our final pick is the Ashton two-seater sofa in leather. Whilst the rich brown leather gives it a classic feel, the boxy shape and symmetrical design is modern and contemporary. The clean lines and sabre shaped arms give the Ashton an attractive shape that would suit almost any modern living room.
